Kindness and Compassion

So sorry that I have been away for some time, this life no matter how hard we try, has its impact on us. The great thing is, we have God as our succor and hope at all times.

My new post is on how we can all make this world a better place by being kind and compassionate. I pray that you read to the end and may it be of great benefit to you as you do so.

Looking back in time, it is hard to believe that the world was more peaceful and pleasant than it is now. We loved and cared for one another even without knowing each other, we did not care too much about money, fame, race, and superiority; we just loved for the sake of love and kindness.

All of this seems unrealistic now because of the way the media showcase the world and the people. Most of the time we see news of terrorism, corruption, betrayal, political scandal, sexual assault, violence, crime, etc. We start to get pessimistic because all we see in our daily lives are people hating and fighting each other. The media particularly focus more on the negative than the positive and this affects our minds in negative ways.

It can be awful hard to show kindness and compassion in a world where all we see are terrible and inhumane things happening all around us. We think to ourselves, “Why should I be kind to others when all they do is lie and cheat?” We begin to lose hope in humanity because we were hurt or disappointed by someone or sometimes by so many different people over and over again, we become bitter and frustrated, and this is how the world becomes unbearable to us. To overcome this, we need to realize that no matter what we’ve been through, no matter how many times we fall or are broken, there’s eternal hope in God for us and when we focus not too much on what the world has dealt us with (negatively); we can experience a new beginning all over again.

“Weeping endures for a night but definitely, joy comes in the morning” (Psalm 30:5)

It’s time for us to take our pains, hurts, betrayals, disappointments, failures, and put them all behind us, so that we can embrace what is in stock for us. Forgiving one another, because when we forgive, we are not only fulfilling righteousness but we are embracing peace of mind and comfort, knowing and accepting that what is done is done. Then we move on, one step at a time, learning from our past mistakes but not led by them. We can only hope and work for the best, caring, and supporting each other especially at this crucial point in life (where hope is dim, expectations are not being met, tomorrow is not certain). Reach out to families, friends, neighbors, see how they are doing, and smile at strangers you meet on your way, be kind, compassionate, and gracious. We must remember, we all have a role to play in making this world a better place for us all.

“Every act of kindness benefits the giver, as well as the receiver.”

We all spend several days calculating, planning, and thinking of how to change the world, how to do something to make it a better place. This is the perfect time to act, to do something for someone right now! A little act of kindness and compassion can have more worth than all the jewels of the world combined, give water to a thirsty animal, send a note to someone that you care about, give to the needy, feed the homeless people on your way home. It’s time for us all to do something!!

Let us become part of the millions of people doing good all around the world. Yes, there are good people all around us, they may not be showcased on the news and TV but they are there. Helping, loving, and caring for one another. That is why the world is still standing, otherwise, it would have broken down long ago.

Ralph Waldo Emerson
“You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late.”

Kindness and compassion are not grand actions that would make us superstars, but they bring us the kind of peace that is not found in any corner of the world. Our acts of kindness give us a sense of calmness and compassion, which makes us feel good not only about ourselves but about our actions. We do not know the time of our death nor when it will all end, we only have today and we can spend today doing whatever we like, hopefully helping one another. If we put a good deed till tomorrow, we might regret it later and not get the chance to do so again, so let us go ahead and do something today that will help others and bring us peace as well.

Aesop
“No act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted.”

When we start doing good things for others, good things start happening to us as well. We all might have heard the phrase, “What goes around, comes around.” When we spread kindness around us, we receive kindness in return as well. It might be in different shapes and forms but it is always there.

Last but not least, the best acts of kindness that we can do is to ourselves. When we start to love ourselves, we will unconsciously start to love others as well. That is the key to living a healthy and happy life. This world can become a beautiful piece of heaven when we show kindness to ourselves as well as others, and remember, people die every day but their acts of kindness live on for eternity.

Thich Nhat Hahn
“No one is more worthy of your kindness and compassion than yourself.”
